PCUSA Missionary returning to South Sudan

PCUSA Missionary Sharon Curry, Returning to Akobo, South Sudan, January 15!!

I love this saying, and it is so appropriate for how I feel right now…

Advent, the season of anticipation… “The season of Advent means there is something on the horizon the likes of which we have never seen before…

That is exactly how I feel right now, I AM in a season of anticipation and  there is something on the horizon that I have never seen before and I can’t wait to get there to see the next part of this mission unfold into the beautiful gift God has entrusted me with.

I am so excited to begin again the work that God has called us to.  It will begin in Juba where I will spend about a week taking care of the necessary paperwork to be able to fly on UN and World Food Program planes while we (all the Mission Co-Workers in South Sudan) are traveling in South Sudan.  No more flashing red letter “Illegal passenger” signs for me bouncing all over the world!!  That is what happened when the pilots took me out last year, even though I had been denied passage by the higher-ups.

Then it is off to Akobo where I will get busy setting up house – my little grey tent (8’x10′), while we prepare for the big (16’x20′). white tent.    I am almost as excited about that since I have lived out of boxes and suitcases for almost a year and a half, as I am about returning to Akobo.

Then I will be off and running…learning language and culture…working with church and community leaders to begin the foundation work for building the wells the women who attended the PW Gathering this summer so generously donated to, and beginning laying the foundation for the Community Health Evangelism programs with church and community leaders.  Then it is on to the adventure’s God leads me to.

I am excited and looking forward to sharing the journey with you as we move forward.

May God bless you all for your love, support and prayers.
