A service of Witness to the Resurrection in memory of Peter Mark Scott, minister of music and organist at St. Stephen Presbyterian Church in Fort Worth for nearly 40 years, will take place 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 1, at St. Stephen Presbyterian Church, 2700 McPherson Ave., Fort Worth, 76109. Prelude music will begin at 1:20 p.m. The service will debut a hymn written in Mr. Scott’s honor by famed church music composer Hal H. Hopson. The hymn, “Come and Find the Quiet Center,” is set to “Mark’s Tune,” with lyrics composed by Shirley Erena Murray.
Mr. Scott was a highly respected church musician, and the service will reflect this. Respected church musicians and a large community choir will highlight this event. Organists include Marialice Parish, Betty Boles, and Guillermo Martinez, with choir direction by J. Brent McCartney. Organ music includes pieces by Bach, Brahms, Ralph Vaughan Williams, and Pierre Cochereau.
A reception will follow in the Parish Hall, on the south end of the education building.
As large attendance is anticipated, church members and the able are encouraged to arrive early, by 1:00 or 1:15, and park on the surrounding streets or in the upper parking lot, in order to show hospitality to our guests and those with special needs.
Memorials in Mr. Scott’s honor may be contributed to The St. Stephen Presbyterian Church Special Music Fund.
