This is the first event at St. Stephen introducing the 2013 hymnal published by the PCUSA. The Session authorized the purchase of this exciting new book in May 2012. Delivery is expected this September.
Michael Waschevski, Associate Pastor at First Presbyterian Church, a trained musician as well as an ordained Presbyterian pastor, will guide us through how this new book was prepared. Michael was a member of the General Assembly Committee charged with its preparation. He will have short explanations about the process but mostly, he will have us singing a wide variety of hymns and songs that will be in this book. Some will be familiar, some new, reflecting the wide diversity of cultures that comprise Presbyterians throughout the globe. Exciting new music from Africa, Asia, America–including African-American spirituals, gospel, contemporary Christian.
Children are encouraged to attend as there will be some hymns/songs appropriate to their age. For very young children, a nursery will be provided.
I do no know whether that perennial 1976 favorite by Bobby Bare, Drop Kick Me Jesus Through the Goal Posts of Life made the cut, but we can be hopeful. All will be revealed this Sunday. Michael will be happy to answer questions you might have.
No reservations needed–just show up in the Parish Hall at 12:15 p.m., this Sunday, April 14th to have lunch as a congregation and to join in singing some old and new songs to the Lord!
