A Concert of American Popular Music

On Sunday, April 28 at 3:00 p.m., the 2012-2013 St. Stephen Special Series will present the Sanctuary Choir, St. Swithun Handbell Guild and various vocal solos and ensembles in a concert of popular music, composed by Americans.  A wide variety of music has been chosen including early 19th century madrigal/parlor songs by Stephen Foster; a piano rag by Scott Joplin; classics by Jerome Kern; a medley of Broadway standards by Stephen Sondheim; Rodgers & Hammerstein; Irving Berlin; George M. Cohan; George Gershwin and more.

The concert will take place in the Sanctuary and will last about 1-1/2 hours.  You are guaranteed to be humming along, tapping your foot and reflecting on your own private remembrances about each song.

Come and enjoy hearing some of the best American popular music performed in the splendid surroundings of the St. Stephen sanctuary on a Sunday afternoon.  The program is free and open to the public.
